Ed Sheeran’s ‘Give Me Love’ Video Is Complete

I was psyched to hear that Ed Sheeran’s video was out, especially since I had been (still am) playing it in loops for days turning into weeks. I found out I was about 3o million views late, but I quickly forget about that after I hit the play button on the YouTube video.

Not only was I impressed about the narrative, I appreciated the fact that all types of love – straight, gay, 1-on-1, 2-on-1, and whatever labels are out there was portrayed in the 4:26 video.

That’s what I meant when I wrote – Ed Sheeran’s ‘Give Me Love’ Video is Complete.

Victor Ehikhamenor will be reading from his new book, Excuse Me. Other budding writers will also read from their works. [MUSIC from Kenya] Nanjira – Walking (Live Acoustic)

Here’s my friend Nanjira from Kenya, doing the acoustic live version of her debut single – WALKING.

Can’t wait to get the chords (and Lyrics) from the composer, Blackman, to do a cover myself.

Listen to the words. Get Inspired… …and keep walking!

The Acoustic EP by ‘Ese Peters

Quick Wrap
As promised, it’s #MusicMonday and here’s a review of Ese Peter’s The Acoustic EP. I remember meeting Ese at an edition of One Mic Naija and talked about releasing an album in 2011 – stating the Chinese year of money theory, but he said it wasn’t going to happen until 2012. Well here’s an EP (not an album) but add 2 instrumentals and 1 remix and you have an album.

Having listened to the EP – all 5 songs for about 7 times each, I think I will be fair enough to give this summary ratings:

  • Lyrics                                 ★★★★☆
  • Rhythm                             ★★★★☆
  • Diction                               ★★★★☆
  • Intros                                 ★★★☆☆
  • Endings                              ★★★☆☆
  • Song Transition                 ★★★☆☆
  • EP Transition                     ★★★★☆
  • Overall                              ★★★★☆

Track Review

Track 1: Gone
It starts with a guitar intro and all of a sudden, I feel I’m listening to one of ’em JMs – Jason Mraz, John Morrison, or John Mayer*. Verse 1’s lyrics is pretty impressive and the chorus is even more impressive (if you hear it twice, you should be able to sing along). Transitions is quite smooth, but I wouldn’t mind if there is more harmonizing in the middle of the song

Track 2: The Way You are (Darey Cover)
I have to say Ese Peter has some guts doing an acoustic version of a song like this. For God sakes the original version was quite complex but yet Ese Peters demystifies the song and sings out all of the lyrics clearly. A smoother and solo harmonizing would have been better though, but in all it is a good cover and Darey should definitely shout-out back at Ese.

Track 3: Walk Away
Love the echo effect! I have to say it again – I love the echo effect! I see this a perfect song for some scene in Grey’s Anatomy, House, and One Tree Hill. The chorus did get me thinking – Gospel? I did tell Ese that this song almost made him get into my top 5 musicians for 2011, but thing is this song is actually on my top 3 inspirational songs for 2011 just after American’s Reject – Move Along and Mat Kearney’s Sooner or Later.

Track 4: Baby’s Gone (Asa Cover)
At least we now know who’s gone in Track 1. I am not going to say Ese Peters did a better job than Asa (until I hear Asa do a pure Acoustic version), but then I got something against Ese in this song. This is meant to be an acoustic EP and yet I think I hear electric guitars in some part. That said, I love the cover – funny because of the electric guitar and the twist Ese adds to the tune.

My Ratings ★★★☆ ☆ | Play or Download

Track 5: Stay With Me
Maybe the echoe effect is not as good as that on Track 3, it seems a fair call. I think the best part of the song is the chorus (and the bridge). Inducing harmony in the chorus and maybe bridge will have earned the song another star (something Ese should consider for live performances). Is Track 5 a good song to end the EP? I think so – since it is of a higher tempo than Track 4.

My Ratings ★★★☆ ☆ | Play or Download

Awesome guy, and great EP – considering he produced every song. I will not be surprised if by 2012 a number of Indie artists start to sign up at IndieNoise (starting with me), but I will definitely be watching out for Ese’s first album and more importantly his schedule for live shows in the upcoming year.

The Role of Music in Business

The ambiance was pumped up with Brenda Fassi’s voice rushing out of the speakers. I could see almost everyone reacting with a rhythmic nod or just a smile. The service providers almost began dancing to the song, and being a lover of music myself, I started singing along and dancing behind the steering wheel.

This was not another gas station, as traditionally, I was to drive in and get fuel without delay if lucky or wait 2 – 5 cars, only to meet a grumpy sales officer. Get my usual N500 – N2000 fuel, collect my change and then zoom off calculating when next I’d need to have the same experience (praying not too soon).

It was different this time around. I did not want to leave the gas station. I wouldn’t have bothered if there were 10 cars ahead of me (there was only 1). I came to see another side of sales officers – a happy one, and I looked forward to coming back to that same filling station. Why? Music!

Unfortunately, not many businesses (especially in Nigeria) have gotten a good grasp of the role of music in business. Music is powerful in a number of businesses – especially those that consume the time of customers, e.g. shopping, eatery & restaurant, transport, recreation, etc. Take it to the bank: “Good music allows the customer spend more time and in turn more money”

After all – Time is Money!
